First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at John Laing.
Assessor
The interview experience was good, and the questions were relevant to the role. They asked for my experiences and copies of certificates, and clearly explained the role, but didn't explain any benefits. I met with the line manager and office manager, who took notes and asked what I wanted from them as an employer. The interview was held in nice, spacious offices, which gave a really good impression of the company. I was asked to sign in and wasn't kept waiting, going straight into the interview, so it was a nice first impression overall.
- How would you handle a situation where you're experiencing difficulties with a learner?
Investment Analyst
The interview was pretty standard, with a few rounds that mixed technical and behavioral questions. The technical part was more about practical financial modeling and forecasting skills rather than super deep theory. Behavioral questions were also pretty standard, looking at how well I'd fit in, my communication, and my past work experience. It felt professional and predictable, focusing on the main skills needed.
- Can you describe your approach to teamwork?
Executive Assistant
This was a fun and straightforward interview process, though it does take a while to hear back. Plan for it to take at least a month. Otherwise, it's your standard interview with general questions. It's best to be direct, sharp, and to the point.
- Can you share details about your past work experience?
Secretary
First round was with HR and then I met my new boss. Both interviews were straightforward.
