John Jay College of Criminal Justice Interview Questions
& Process

I had three separate interviews with three faculty members from the school. Then, a final interview with current PhD fellows. I did the interviews via Zoom because I was out of the country but there is also an assigned "interview day".

I was contacted via email for an interview and was offered several convenient time slots. The actual interview had five interviewers, which I understand is standard for CUNY as they require significant HR representation. I've noticed other college interviews also tend to have many interviewers. The questions were manageable for anyone who was prepared. I did observe that some interviewers seemed disengaged at times, which I later realized might be due to the large number of candidates they have to interview.

The interview process was a disorganized mess, run by people who don't deserve qualified professionals. Interviews were cancelled the night before due to the committee not submitting paperwork, and rescheduling took weeks. During the panel interview, the women were great, but the men were unprepared and cold. The new Department Chair just stared at me and grumpily said he had no questions. Despite John Jay College's low graduation rate, they acted like this was Stanford and they were too good. They treated me, someone with better credentials, like I wasn't good enough. It was a horrible experience, and other interviewees had the same issues.

I got a call from the executive secretary and they asked me to come in for an interview. They asked me about my current knowledge and how I'd deal with certain scenarios. It went well and the conversation was great. They called me back a week later to talk with the director about my availability, work hours, and attendance. Three weeks after that, I got the offer.
