First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at John Burns Real Estate Consulting.
Director of Predictive Modeling
So first I had like a 30 minute chat with someone from HR, it was not technical and mainly about my background and like, if I'm a good fit for the company. Then the next step was like, a timed predictive modeling challenge to see how good I am technically and if I can solve problems fast.

Consulting Manager
I interviewed with this company and was really excited about the position. The hiring manager seemed great and indicated that they were highly impressed by my resume and experience. At the end of the call I was given a full briefing on what to expect going forward, when they would be in contact again (which was supposed to be within a few days) and next steps including assessments and infographics; then they went radio silent. I followed up with the hiring manager a few times after and couldn't even get a courtesy response to my emails or calls.
- Can you discuss your past experience in real estate consulting?
Consultant
The interview process was pretty lengthy, spanning almost two months. I met with five people from the company over separate occasions. The process included an introductory interview with HR, an Excel assessment, a written assessment, behavioral interviews, providing three references, and completing a background check approval form and some pre-employment paperwork. I had originally applied for the Manager- Real Estate position, but they decided Consultant would be a better fit halfway through. Despite the thorough process, I was surprised not to get the position, especially after reaching out to past employers for references that weren't utilized. The people were friendly and the company's work seemed interesting.
- Would you rather work by yourself or with a team?
Intern
There was a short intro chat with HR about my resume, then some assessments like logic/skills tests, personality questionnaires, an Excel test, and a writing analysis. After that, there was a longer (1hr) interview with the manager focusing on behavioral and skills questions. The whole process can be quite spread out over time.
