First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Jinya Ramen Bar.
Server
I filled out some forms about things like if I had transportation and what hours I’d be available. Then I answered a few questions that were what-if situations and followed up on the forms.
- What would you do if your car broke down right before your shift started?
Hostess
It was pretty straightforward. They mostly wanted to gauge my communication skills and see if I had a pleasant and friendly demeanor. My advice would be to be as open as possible and to definitely smile a lot, since the hostess is the first point of contact for anyone coming into the restaurant!
- In a situation where a customer is upset and calling on the phone, how would you manage it?
Bartender
I interviewed with another person who was also applying for a serving position. The manager asked both of us some typical questions. Then, they told me I'd get a call later that day or the next morning, but I never heard back.
- If I contacted your current managers, what strengths and weaknesses would they mention about you?
Host
It was a short interview, and the interviewer seemed really unenthusiastic. They asked me about myself but didn't share much information about the job itself. They also didn't really explain what the next steps in the process would be, and it didn't feel very welcoming. Honestly, I'm kind of glad I didn't get the job.
- Can you tell me a bit about yourself, not necessarily related to work?
