Behavioral Technical

The interview process began with some basic questions about the job and then some behavioral analysis. There were a total of 2 rounds: HR first, then technical. Although, after working there for about 2 years, I've seen that it depends on the candidate; sometimes interviews take longer and have multiple rounds.

I was referred by a consultant and then went to an interview. After that, I had a one-week trial and then signed two contracts. I interviewed with the manager and supervisor.

I saw the job on the company website and applied. After the usual online application and CV upload, I did an online assessment which took 3 days to get feedback on. Passed that! Next, I had a 45-minute phone call with a director. It was a deep dive into my qualifications, skills, experience, goals, and why I wanted to work at Jewson. Two days later, I got an email saying I passed that too and was invited to a full-day assessment with other candidates. It was far away and started at 9 am, ending at 5 pm. Honestly, it felt like a really long, invasive, tiring, and quite frankly, a waste of intelligence. We were introduced to the area managers who would be interviewing us. First, there was a 30-minute interview checking my CV, experience, and skills, plus a lot of questions about how I could contribute to Jewson. Then, we waited around while everyone else was interviewed. After that, we had to individually prepare a presentation, at least 15 minutes long, on a topic, which was something like how garden centres can get more customers - very original! Then came a group exercise where we had 40 minutes to prepare a presentation on a given scenario, to be presented to everyone at the end of the day. Totally pointless as they bluff you into spending ages on it, only to say you won't actually present it! A complete waste of valuable time! We were then told to leave and wait for news within two weeks. The day might have been less painful if it wasn't in a hotel coffee room, but the coffee machine kept us going as there were no proper breaks, just waiting around between interviews. I heard back a week later, sadly not getting the job and no explanation was given even though they knew everything about me. I asked for some feedback on why I didn't meet expectations, especially since others were hired for different roles and there was only one vacancy. I was promised a detailed review within a week, but after waiting 4 weeks and chasing it up, then waiting another 4 months, I gave up.

It was very relaxed, I just came in for a chat, and was shown around the shop and the yard. The only thing I would say is that it took too long to hear back if I was successful, not sure if this was Jewsons or the recruitment company. Was told to fill a form in before even finding out what the salary offer was.
