First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Jewish United Fund.
Coordinator
After submitting my application online, I got an interview offer within a few days. I only had one interview with the director, assistant director, and direct manager. It took about a week after the interview to get the job offer.
- Given scenarios involving the clients we serve, how would you respond?
Administrative Assistant
So, this interview process was a bit of a joke. It was a two-step thing: first, a Zoom/phone screen, which felt way too quick and easy, making me suspicious. Then, the face-to-face interview, and that's where all the red flags popped up. They never mentioned salary, not once, and it wasn't in the job description either. They couldn't explain any 2-5 year plan for the role or the department, and there was no clear mission statement or 'big picture' to speak of. The interviewers seemed lost on their own office floor, asking where the conference room was. One interviewer looked totally checked out from the start. They couldn't even describe a typical day, week, or month, or any goals with metrics. My direct supervisor, who I spoke to on Zoom, wasn't even there for the in-person meeting for no stated reason. To top it off, someone who seemed like a janitor just walked into the room and looked around, and the interviewers didn't even react. Oh, and one interviewer's phone rang twice, and all their phones were just sitting on the table the whole time. It felt like a really disorganized and shady way of doing things, totally lacking transparency. Honestly, it felt like I dodged a bullet. They even sent a generic rejection email the next day, which was just insulting after making me drive there and pay for parking. If they had issues with my resume, they shouldn't have wasted my time with an in-person interview. It's on HR to provide basic info like salary, mission, and plans, not on the candidate.
- How would you handle or put together an annual review?
Human Resources Assistant
I got my first interview through an external screener. After passing some computer tests, I had my first interview that same day. The interviewer was really nice and friendly, making it easy to talk to her. She mainly wanted to understand my personality. Then, I interviewed with the heads of the department. They were also very nice and seemed to be assessing my competence and whether I'd be a good fit for the team.
- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
Volunteer Coordinator
The process kicked off with a brief phone call where they asked about my background and what I knew about the organization. They then quickly scheduled an in-person interview. After that initial meeting, I was invited back for a second in-person interview.
- Can you share an innovative idea for a volunteer activity?
