First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Jewish Federation of North America.
Project Manager
It took about two months from applying to accepting the offer, which is usually longer than this typical interview process. There were multiple interviews with department staff, the hiring manager, and office leadership. The questions asked were standard, not too difficult or too easy.
- Can you tell me what you know about JFNA and why this position interests you?
Emissary
The interview is conducted over Skype or Zoom. The goal is to get to know you, so it's best to be yourself and be truthful. You should demonstrate some understanding of Israel and Judaism and be kind and pleasant.
- Tell me about your knowledge of the Jewish world.
Director
It was a quick process; they got back to me about a day after I applied. I had phone interviews, an in-person interview, and then another phone call. I met with the team, but not HR before the offer.
- I was asked if I was married, which I felt was an attempt to see if I had children that might interfere with my commitment to the role.
Administrative
Submitted my resume and cover letter, then had to wait over a month for a response. They sent a long, company-specific questionnaire to complete before the in-person interview. The first interview was with HR over the phone, followed by an invitation to meet with two department managers. The interviewers seemed really rushed, constantly checking their phones during the interview, which made it unproductive and felt like my interview was an inconvenience to them.
- Can you tell me what you know about JFC?
- What motivates you to want this specific position?
- Describe a situation where an event you were in charge of goes wrong, and explain what you would do.
