The CIR interview for the JET Programme is done by a panel of past JETs or CLAIR staff. They'll ask about how you'd fit in an office in Japan, what you hope to gain from JET, and what you bring as an applicant. For the CIR role specifically, you'll need to show your Japanese skills (N2/N1 level) by reading a short Japanese text aloud and then answering questions about it.

Applied by post back in mid-October. Got an interview invitation in early Feb for a late Feb interview at the Embassy. I arrived a little early and was shown to a library room. Three interviewers, one a former CIR, were there. They asked straightforward questions about expectations, handling tasks like event organization or school visits, and about the Japanese work environment. They also inquired about my part-time work and why I selected a particular region in Japan, which I answered truthfully, expressing my desire to live and work there as it would be new to me. After about 20 minutes, we transitioned to the Japanese portion. I had to read two texts of varying difficulty aloud after a brief skimming period. This was followed by questions about the texts and my opinions on them. The interview concluded after around 45 minutes. Two months later, I got accepted and had to submit materials like a physical exam and confirm my acceptance. A few weeks after that, I was informed of my placement in Japan and began final preparations, including a meetup with other CIR applicants. We received more details about our work, placements, and pre-departure tasks, along with flight information.
