First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Jefferson Center for Mental Health.

The whole application process was really long and kind of disorganized, taking about three months from start to finish. They asked for references really early on, which I thought was a bit much because it can be annoying for your references to keep getting contacted. I'd suggest waiting until the end for that. The team leader I spoke with was nice and seemed to know a lot about the job, but after the last interview, there was just silence from the philanthropy team, even after I reached out. I mean, I don't expect them to reply every day, but candidates put in a lot of work, so a little more effort on their end would be appreciated. Getting a generic rejection email weeks later from someone I never heard of felt a bit insulting considering how much I researched the company and the role. Again, not asking for a novel, but a quick thank you from someone on the team would have been nice. I do wish Jefferson Center the best with their mission, as it's something I really care about, but some changes to their hiring process would make it much better for candidates.
- Can you tell me about a time you dealt with a disagreement?
- How do you approach situations where there's a lack of cooperation?
Administrative
Applied online, uploaded my resume and cover letter, and answered a few screening questions. A recruiter contacted me within a few days to finish an application and set up an interview. I went to the office for an in-person interview with two department members who were really nice and easy to talk to. Then, I had a second interview with the whole team over video conference, which had some technical issues but went well. After completing a quick online background screening form, the hiring manager called to offer me the job.
- How would you deal with a coworker who disagrees with you?
- Can you tell me about your previous experience?
- What makes you want to work at Jefferson Center?
Intake Clinician
The interview process is structured and fair. It's very straightforward where you are asked about availability, experience, and which site you prefer to work at. The process is very diplomatic where you are interviewed by a panel of clinicians, each of which bring a different perspective. One of the great things about JCMH is that the people you interview with have their own questions, which often invokes some of their clinical experience. This is a good way to get to know about the staff and some of their theoretical orientations and I encourage all potential applicants to consider this going into the interview.
- How would you handle [insert situation]?
Addiction Tech
I applied online and heard back the next day. Then I had an in-person interview with two people. They didn't ask standard interview questions like strengths or weaknesses, but more about the process itself. I left the interview feeling confused about how I did. Later, I was asked for a background check and drug screen. After completing those, I got a rejection from HR. Five days later, HR called saying it wasn't that they didn't want me, but they had already hired someone else who had completed the process. They asked if I was still interested, but I had already accepted another job.
- What would you do if a patient went to the hospital and the hospital staff didn't agree with our policy?
- What clinical experience do you have?
