Asset Management Analyst
I talked with HR on September 30. After that, I passed an Excel test and then had back-to-back interviews with the Asset Management team. One of those interviews was tough because the interviewer seemed dismissive and questioned my master's degree. This was on October 10. Then, over a month later on November 13, HR emailed me about a different role in Operations because they decided not to move forward with me for the first one. I said I was still interested, and they set up two more interviews for the week of November 25. The main interviewer dominated the conversation and said a decision would be made before Christmas. I didn't hear back until January 6, 2025, after I emailed them twice for an update. HR's response was brief, stating they'd found another candidate with no further details. It's a shame that basic professionalism seems lacking, as similar behavior from a candidate would lead to immediate disqualification.
- What key variables would you analyze to determine which of two identical office buildings is the better investment?
Maintenance Supervisor
I had a phone call where we discussed my work history and overall experience. After that, I went in person for an interview at the property. The property manager talked to me about teamwork and leadership, and the maintenance manager asked me some questions about HVAC, plumbing, and getting apartments ready for new tenants.
- What kind of HVAC systems have you dealt with before?
Outreach Representative
After applying online, it took a couple of weeks for the company to run my application through a service that does a write-up on my personality type and work ethic. If they liked it, I got a phone screening. Nancy did my phone screening, and she was very nice. We just went over my resume, and she set me up for my first interview. I first met with my manager and her manager for an interview, which was held at an apartment and felt very friendly and inviting, making me more excited for the job. Later, I met with a higher-up director, and we talked about what makes a job/day at work/boss good or bad and general preferences in working situations. We also talked about my past work and why I wanted to come work for JBG. All the staff were smiling, warm, and good people.
- Tell me about what would constitute a bad day at work, in your own words.
- What are the characteristics of a good job, work day, or boss, and conversely, what makes them bad?
- What are your general preferences when it comes to working situations?
Asset Management Analyst
This hiring process took forever, spanning months. I initially applied for a different job but got an offer for a screening call, which was rescheduled twice because HR had last-minute conflicts. During the screening call, I learned they had just finished final round interviews. Weeks later, HR suggested I apply for the asset management role. I completed and passed a modeling test. Then I had an interview with the manager, who seemed rude and completely uninterested from the start. It was clear he didn't want to be there, and I figured I wouldn't get the job regardless of my performance. Even after following up for updates weeks later, I never heard back.
- What is your motivation for pursuing a career in asset management?
