Product Designer
So, the interview journey involved a couple of chats with a recruiter, then a meeting with the hiring manager, followed by a session with the Design director. To wrap it up, there was a cross-functional call where I presented my portfolio. The whole vibe throughout these interactions was really positive, and I felt a good connection with everyone.
- Could you present your work/life experiences as a series of stories, like chapters?
Software Engineer
I went through 4 stages. The whole thing took about 3 weeks. First up was a recruiter screening call, just a standard Zoom chat about the role and my experience. Then, I had an online coding challenge. After that, it was the Hiring Manager Interview, which was a friendly chat about my experiences and work style, and I got to learn more about Jasper and the team. Finally, there was a Technical Interview where we went over the coding challenge and did some pair programming to improve the solution. There were also a couple of follow-up discussions about different problems. Everyone was super friendly and made the interview comfortable and enjoyable.
- Can you describe your working style?
Product Manager
My interview experience with Jasper was great, I really liked how straightforward and honest it was. It was mostly over Zoom. The steps were: 1) Recruiter call. 2) A dev manager chat. 3) A product manager chat. 4) A call with the hiring manager. 5) A final chat with a co-founder. 6) The recruiter called with the offer. At every stage, I could ask lots of questions, and everyone at Jasper was so humble and nice. They really made it feel like I was interviewing them too, which I appreciated. Compared to other places I was interviewing, Jasper was the only one with that kind of humble, welcoming approach. I also liked that they moved quickly. They made sure I knew what the next steps were after each call and emailed me details promptly. I never had to wait more than two days to know where I stood. They were also respectful of my time, with each interview lasting about 30-45 minutes. Another company tried to book me for a 5-hour unpaid block during the work week for one interview round, so Jasper's understanding that I'm still employed elsewhere was a big plus. The recruiter gave me a document about Jasper's benefits during the process, so I had a clear picture of how they compared to my current benefits before we finalized compensation.
- How do you like to work with your software engineering team and dev manager?
- What would you do if there was a big feature you wanted to get out the door, but the developer on the feature was pulled off on a personal emergency?
Customer Success Coach
The hiring process needs improvement and better alignment among the interviewers. Each person I spoke with described the job differently, which makes me think they haven't reviewed the job description. It's important to remember that candidates are also evaluating the company during this process. Missed deadlines and poor communication were concerning. It felt like they rushed to fill the role over the holidays, and more automation could have helped with timely communication. The interview questions were very hypothetical and didn't focus on the value I brought to previous companies or what I could offer Jasper. They were more interested in why I left my last job, my start date availability, and my future career goals.
- Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
- What prompted your departure from your previous employer?
- What are your aspirations for your next role?
