Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Jane Street.
Business Analyst
I had a phone interview for about 25 minutes. It was with one person who asked me math problems, mostly stats and probability, that I had to solve without pen and paper.
- What's the probability of drawing a specific hand of cards?
Business Analyst
Had a 30-min phone interview. They threw three math questions at me and wanted to hear my entire thought process. The questions weren't designed to trick me, but they were complex and required fast thinking. You gotta have a clear head and be adaptable for their interviews. This phone screen wasn't behavioral.
- Can you calculate the product of all integers from zero to one hundred?
Business Analyst
We started with an Excel exercise, and then had a phone interview. The questions they asked were pretty much what they hinted at beforehand, so you knew what to expect. It wasn't my usual style, but they prepared me well.
- Can you estimate the number of bridges that span the Mississippi River?
- What is your estimate for the daily vehicle traffic crossing the Mississippi River?
