First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at James Marketing Consultants.
Account Manager
You'll have a first interview where they give you the nice version of the job. Then, you'll have a second interview with someone who used to do the job. You'll meet at Starbucks, and they'll ask about your past work, the pay, and how you can get promoted. What they don't say is it's door-to-door sales, no degree needed, and the hours are 11:30-7:30 with pay all by commission. It's okay if you're social and just need a job, but not if you want to use your degree.
- What are the top three company qualities you seek?
Marketing
The interview process was fantastic! Everyone was super personable and nice. This job didn't end up being the right fit for me because it's commission-only sales, and while I thought the 'family-like environment' meant family-oriented, it seems more geared towards people who are single. It felt like a work hard, play hard place where staff hangs out a lot, which isn't what I'm looking for. I wish the commission-only aspect had been clearer earlier on. My advice would be to share more about the company's history and what makes it great on the website instead of just focusing on recruiting. This would save everyone time. The only hint I got about the pay or environment was from negative online reviews. This job would be great for someone single who likes socializing with coworkers and is motivated by competition and commission. If you're married, have a family, dislike commission-only pay, or have a bad feeling, address it or move on.
- Can you explain the distinction between direct and indirect marketing?
- Could you discuss your personal strengths and weaknesses?
Account Executive
I applied on LinkedIn and heard back from HR within a few hours. They were really nice and helped me schedule an interview. The first interview was basically a meet and greet where they asked about what I'm seeking in a company and my ideal work environment. Then, the second interview was all about the role itself, like what the daily tasks are and how compensation works. The last interview was a final chat to clear up any remaining questions or concerns about the job. Overall, it was a really good experience.
- How do you cope with rejection?
Recruiter
I had three interviews for this role. There was a 20 minute delay before one of the interviews started, I was supposed to be in it already. The interview involved questions like 'What has been your proudest moment?' and 'Why do you want the job?' as well as 'Why would you be a good fit for the job?' They also asked if I had experience talking to people on the phone and 'Why would we pick you over another candidate?'.
