PhD Student
Interview mainly focuses on reading a paper in 1 hour and discussing it with the committee. Questions about your perspectives, plans, relation to science and lab experience so far. What do you bring to the institution? How to you fit? Is it in line with your future plans?
- What was main message of the paper?
IT Systems Administrator
A friend referred me, so things moved fast. I got a quick call from the lead admin on day three. The phone screen was pretty easy, and they asked me some simple questions about managing Linux/Solaris systems and some basic shell scripting tricks. They also asked about my favorite text editor, which I suspect might have been a misstep since I mentioned Emacs.
- Could you tell me about your experience with Linux/Solaris administration?
- Do you know any handy shell scripting tricks?
- What's your preferred text editor?
PhD Student
The interview was online with a panel of 5 scientists. They each asked questions related to their astronomy specialities, touching on my field of interest.
- What would be observed in a radio galaxy?
