Store Manager
I got contacted by a recruiter based in the NY corporate office. We had a really good initial phone call, then I went in for an on-site interview with the current store director. After that, the same recruiter reached out again to discuss salary, my start date, and any concerns I might have. Then I got an offer and negotiated through the recruiter.
- Can you tell me about your background?
- How would you approach employee training and development?
- Do you prefer working in the back of the house or the front?
Store Manager
I was first contacted by the Recruiting Manager, and we had a phone interview that was quite in-depth and challenging. Next, I spoke with the district manager; that conversation was more relaxed and focused on my career goals and where I see myself going with J Crew. Finally, I met with the Store Director, and our discussion involved interview questions specifically tailored to her store.
- Can you explain your interest in working for J Crew?
- Can you walk me through a typical work week in your current position?
- What are your long-term career goals and aspirations?
Store Manager
I was an internal candidate. The best thing I can recommend is to tell everyone above you that you are interested in applying. Just one of your 4/5 peers/supervisors can have an effect and will challenge you about not coming to them. Even if this means moving to a different location, everyone you work with could be asked.
- What are your superiors' strengths and weaknesses?
