First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at IXL Learning.
Recruiter
I had a good start interviewing at IXL, especially since I was referred and felt a good vibe with the hiring manager and team. After finishing the final interview, I got an email saying I was rejected, but without any explanation or feedback, even when I asked for it. What was really weird was that nine months later, the same hiring manager who I already got to know well during the interview process messaged me on LinkedIn like she'd never met me before, asking if I was interested in a recruiter role. It was super obvious it was a LinkedIn template message, and she didn't even bother to check my profile, or she would have seen I was a finalist she decided against hiring. Thankfully, I'm happily employed now. But honestly, there were a lot of concerning signs about the recruiting culture back when I interviewed, and even more so after receiving such a thoughtless message.

Recruiting Coordinator
I applied online and then got an email a week later to schedule the first phone screen. The recruiter wanted to move the call to the next week, and when I got the confirmation, it didn't mention who I was supposed to talk to. That seemed a bit odd since the call was rescheduled and confirmed with someone unknown. On the day of the call, the recruiter was 10-15 minutes late, and we ended up talking for 45 minutes instead of the planned 30. She told me I was a good fit and would let me know the next steps within 2 days. However, I got a standard rejection email with no feedback, which was confusing given what the recruiter said. This was a risk I took considering IXL recently had layoffs, based on previous reviews. It's best to be cautious if you're thinking about applying here.
- How do you manage your tasks and stay organized?
- What motivates you and how do you set your own goals?
Recruiting Coordinator
Found the job on LinkedIn and got a referral from a friend. Talked to a recruiting coordinator the next day who gave an overview and asked about my technical recruiting experience. We scheduled an onsite interview for the following week. At the onsite, I met the same coordinator and a product designer. We discussed IXL's uniqueness, recent focus on Language Arts content, and growth plans, along with questions about my experience in candidate experience, sourcing, and process development. Then I had a call with the Corporate Recruiter about role expectations and team development, plus some background questions. After rescheduling due to a conflict with my current job, I met with the Corporate Recruiter, an HR team member, the VP Operations, and the Engineering Manager. They covered IXL's growth, areas for improvement, and their recruiting process perspectives. I was told I'd hear back within a week and received an offer two days later. I had a final chat with the Corporate Recruiter to cover remaining questions. I previously worked at a tech startup, and IXL offers a similar developer culture but with a mix of younger and experienced professionals.
