First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at IXL Learning.
QA Analyst
I applied online and heard back from a recruiter about two weeks later. We had a phone call, and then I interviewed with the hiring manager, also by phone. Both conversations were pretty standard, asking typical interview questions. It definitely helps to look into their products and services before you talk to them. I appreciated that the hiring team kept me in the loop. The only bummer was that I had a final onsite interview set up for a week later, but they canceled it the day before, saying I wasn't a good fit after all. It was frustrating to spend a week preparing for nothing, especially since I thought things were going well.
- What makes you want to work in QA?
QA Tester
I had 3 phone calls with different people (QA Director, Senior QA, and a PM), then I was invited to an onsite. I was at the office for four hours, met with four people (More senior QA, another director of QA, Software engineer, and a PM) who all quite literally asked me the same questions. All 8 people I spoke to asked me the exact same thing. It seemed like an incredibly inefficient use of time. I spent the entire afternoon answering the same questions over and over again. I also got asked to complete a SQL exercise and to talk about my experience with software engineering even though I have none, as noted on my resume. The engineer who interviewed me was incredibly condescending, pedantic, and seemed like he was not paying attention to anything I was saying. Overall met some cool people, but glad I can say that I dodged a bullet. Got denied because "I didn't have enough prior experience", per the recruiter. Thanks for putting me through 7 rounds for an entry level QA job, when you could see from my resume that I had no prior experience from the jump.
- Can you tell me about yourself? Also, why are you interested in IXL and specifically in a QA role?
- Why IXL?
- Why QA?
Software QA Engineer
So, first there was a phone call, and then I had to go in for like a panel interview with about 5 or 6 people. They all interviewed me separately. We talked about documentation, QA process, how releases work, and database table relationships, plus testing a UI like Login.
- Given a printout of tables for classes, teachers, and student rosters, what's the relationship between class and teachers in relation to students?
