It was a quick and thorough interview process. I had a quick screen, a video interview, and then an in-person panel interview. They communicated clearly throughout the process and consistently sent emails about the next steps. I really want to commend the HR team at Ivy Tech for making the process smooth, transparent, and attentive.

The first interview was with the Dean, interim department chair, former department chair, HR manager, and Accelerated Pathways director. I did a 15-minute teaching demo where I focused on nuances and practical applications rather than just textbook material, which was well-received. There were only about 7-8 questions, and the whole thing lasted 45 minutes. The second interview was with the department chair, Chancellor, and Vice Chancellor of Academic and Resource Development. It was pretty informal, mainly discussing campus culture and goals. I shared a lot of stories and asked about diversity, future initiatives, and chances to mentor and support students. They offered me the job even though I only have two years of classroom experience and have worked outside the field for a few years. My focus on my passion for students, understanding non-traditional students' challenges, and showing appreciation for the Ivy Tech mission really made a difference. I highlighted specific student success programs I admired and inquired about how they support students and involve faculty. I also clarified that I'm not seeking a research or tenure role, valuing the community college aspect. Even with many candidates having more classroom experience, my understanding of the mission secured the job.

I applied through the ATS with my resume and other documents. A few weeks later, I had a virtual interview with the direct supervisor and others from the Career Services office. This was followed by an on-campus interview with the department's direct managers, where I had to give a 5-10 minute presentation. After the second interview, I got an offer from HR through the ATS.

I had a panel interview with people from different departments. They seemed pretty relaxed when I went in. I struggled with the 'sell me this pen' question but felt I recovered during my 5-8 minute presentation, which had a provided template and topic. The other questions were situational and not too difficult. Meeting with payroll and the asst. Chancellor afterward made me optimistic about getting the job, but it didn't work out. The following year, I ran into the director of recruiting at a training and mentioned I felt I could have done better in the interview. He said I actually did great, but they hired someone else. He told me to keep applying because the role is a good stepping stone for those wanting to work at the collegiate level and shared that he didn't get the Director's job the first time he applied, which was encouraging.
