& Process

There were two interview formats I went through. One was a group interview and the other was a one on one. I thought the group interview was more interactive and simpler to handle. The one on one interview really came down to personality, and I think my outgoing personality might have been too much for them.

I first had a zoom call with 3 men, including HR, where I was asked 4 questions, one of which wasn't relevant to the job. Then, I had an in-person interview with three people where they asked about my management thoughts and experience.

This was a long interview process that started in September. About two weeks after my initial interview, the professor told me I was the top candidate and wanted to test my R programming skills. He had access to many datasets, but instead, he had me create an account on the All of Us research workbench. I had to get a state ID, which took about two weeks, and he was willing to wait. Once I got my ID, I set up the AoU workbench account. It took about a month to get verified due to technical issues. While waiting, he had me complete a creative writing sample without a prompt. I also had to finish all the required trainings to access the data. After getting data access, he gave me a research question, and I performed data cleaning and analysis on AoU, submitting the results in an HTML file. He also checked my references. His final question was if I could work late hours and weekends, which I agreed to. I waited two weeks for a response but received nothing, not even a rejection email. Checking the application portal, I saw I was no longer being considered. I found this unprofessional, especially since he was demanding during the hiring process but couldn't send a decision email. I emailed him for feedback on how to improve but never got a reply and was ghosted. I'm glad I wasn't hired by this person, as he showed me he would be a difficult person to work with.

The interview process included general situational questions like 'What would you do if...' and 'Tell me a time when...'. There was also an exercise where you had to review study/enrollment documents, find errors, document them, and then present your findings to the interview committee.
