First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at ITV.
Senior Software Engineer
This was a strange situation, I got an offer last year but didn't get one this time. First was a get-to-know-you chat, which was friendly and open. Then a take-home tech test, which wasn't great, not very representative and poorly guided. They were nice and let me resubmit after I initially submitted a broken branch. The competency interview was a green flag, the senior dev and product rep knew their stuff and were confidence-inspiring. The technical test was the worst, not sure if it was me or the interview itself. I was reviewing code from a year ago, had to re-learn some things. Live coding felt rushed at the end, but I figured I'd already failed. Rejected for not enough TDD and conflict resolution. My advice: they want more than just 100% test coverage, maybe just a few more test files. Try to speed through the code review so you're not rushed on live coding. Maybe have tagless final and concrete IO versions, depending on interviewer preference. Overall, 2/3 of the face-to-face interviews were great, but the technical interview was the lowlight. Getting an offer one year and not the next is weird - maybe the process is inconsistent, I regressed, or standards increased. Shame because the projects sounded great. Good luck to future candidates.
- Could you share some examples of how you've resolved conflicts?

So the interview process involved a standard intro one-on-one where we chatted about my background. After that, I got a practical take-home assignment, a back-end task that seemed pretty straightforward. Then, we scheduled another interview to go over what I'd done on the task. However, the second interview was actually cancelled about 5 minutes before it was supposed to start. I got a call saying they weren't moving forward with my application. It was super frustrating and disheartening, especially since I had to rearrange some things in my morning for it.
- Can you tell me about your background?
- Can you discuss your technical experience?

So first, there was a phone call. Then, I had a take-home technical test. After that, I went in for a 3-hour in-person interview. This included an hour talking about the take-home test and answering some technical questions, another hour doing a new technical exercise, and the last hour with HR where they asked me competency-based questions. I really liked all the people I met and the offices, and it seemed like a great place to work. I would have accepted an offer if one had been made. The only downside was the waiting for feedback. While it was all positive, the recruiter mentioned they were interviewing someone else. This other interview got delayed a couple of times. After almost two weeks of waiting, I followed up and they were still waiting for this candidate to interview. Around the same time, they were considering opening a second position to hire both of us. Then, a few days later, I was told recruitment was paused due to coronavirus. Overall, it was a good experience, just very frustrating to wait so long for a decision.
- Can you discuss a past project you worked on and provide details?
