First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Itasca Consulting Group.
Geomechanics Engineer
I had a one-hour interview with three experts in that company, senior engineers and principal engineers. The interview process was enjoyable, similar to having a discussion with your colleagues. The interview focused on discussing my technical background and my career goal.
- Could you give a brief introduction about yourself?
- Regarding the project you mentioned, what constitutive model did you utilize?
Geomechanics Engineer
This company is super weird or disrespectful. I think I had 3 or 4 interviews with them over the years, and they never told me the results, not even a thank you email, despite me following up. This happened multiple times.
- Can you describe your general experience?
Management
So, usually, we let current staff know about openings first. If there's a referral, we check it out. If not, we post the job publicly. After reviewing applications, we do phone interviews with a small group of 2 or 3 people. Then, the shortlisted candidates come in for a full day of interviews at the office. This involves meeting different people from related departments, depending on the job. These one-on-one chats are about an hour long, sometimes shorter. During the day, the candidate has to give a 20-40 minute presentation about a past project or their work experience. All employees can come to this. Afterwards, the interviewers and anyone else with feedback get together to discuss whether to support or reject the candidate.
- Given that everyone is overloaded, how would you go about getting the technical help you require to do your job?
Intern
Had one Zoom interview where I talked about past and present projects. The interviewers were really engaged and curious, asking questions and telling me cool stuff about the company and Minneapolis. It was a great experience!
