We walked around the manufacturing area and I was asked questions about specific subassemblies. We also talked about my past experiences with specialty measurement tools, soldering, and other technical skills. They asked about my personal hobbies like pc building, 3d printing, robotics, and automotive.

I interviewed with the manager and a VP for a position. The initial phone interviewer suggested I apply for the manager role, but I was originally interested in the FAS position. I told them I was still interested in FAS, but if my background fit the manager role, I was open to discussing it. The interview felt cold, like they were just going through the motions. Many questions were about management style, not FAS. Since I have limited management experience, I thought I wasn't qualified and wanted to talk about the FAS role. I have a PhD in the field and wanted to help their product lines. The interview ended quickly (under 10 min) and they asked if I had questions. I asked about the office, policies, and the ideal candidate. Their answers were brief, so I thanked them and ended the interview.

I was contacted by the internal recruiter. We had a great conversation and was told I'd hear back by the end of the month (March) at the latest. Sent a follow-up thank you. After not hearing after 2 weeks, sent a follow-up email with an updated resume. Nothing. Sent another follow-up check-in email over a month after the initial conversation. Nothing. Quarterly report mentioned restructuring, so I would not be surprised if the position no longer exists, but a simple "we have decided to go in another direction. Thank you for your interest in our company" would be nice. I'm disappointed I didn't not get that courtesy. I really think the company is doing exciting things.

I applied online and heard back from a recruiter in a few days to schedule an initial phone interview that was mostly about soft skills. The second interview was with the hiring manager and included a mix of technical and customer service questions. The third interview was with higher-ups and was very technical. The last interview was with HR and the training lead, where they just wanted to confirm my seriousness about the role and go over the details. The whole process was super smooth and organized; the recruiters did a great job communicating and setting things up.
