First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Isle of Man Government.
Regulatory Analyst
I had an interview with the Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority. It was a good, fair interview with a natural and friendly approach. The CEO, hiring manager, and an external person from elsewhere in Government attended. It felt more like a positive two-way conversation than a rushed series of pre-prepared questions. I was ultimately unsuccessful but received a phone call and was offered reassuring and constructive feedback.
- What makes you want to apply for this position?
Manager
There were about six or seven people in the interview, and it was lengthy and intense. They asked probing questions that really dug into whether I'd done my research on the department I was interviewing for and the organization more broadly.
- Can you explain your understanding of the workings of IoM Government?
HR Manager
The interview is behavioral-based and features a panel of three people, which aligns with the company's recruitment procedures. It's quite engaging and enjoyable. After an offer is made, the entire process becomes automated, making the onboarding journey very easy.
- What sparked your interest in a career within the public sector?
Special Events Manager
I sent in my application online. Then, I had an in-person interview at Douglas with a panel of three people. They interview all the candidates they've shortlisted on the same day. I got a phone call later that evening to find out the outcome. The interviewer only gave me positive feedback, which was a bit of a bummer since I didn't get the job... but hey, you can't always be the top choice.
- How would you handle a situation if something went wrong?
- If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
- Tell me about your background and experience in managing events.
