First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Island Hospitality.
Director of Operations
The interview was great and thought-provoking, giving me a chance to share my expertise. The interviewer, wearing a hoodie, didn't offer a warm welcome and we immediately started with questions. The whole process lasted about 15 minutes. The only thing that seemed to bother the interviewer was my potential unavailability on Sundays due to religious obligations, though I mentioned I could accommodate if needed. I was rejected via email just 13 minutes after the interview concluded, stating "after careful consideration."
- How would you handle a situation with an upset guest experiencing a difficulty?
General Manager
Applied and waited two weeks for a call about a personality test and my interest. I did the test right away and scheduled a call with the Regional Manager. She didn't pick up at the scheduled time, but emailed to reschedule due to a meeting. I emailed twice to reschedule with no response, then called and she said there was still interest, so we rescheduled. The phone interview was about 90 minutes and seemed standard. Then I had a meeting with the Regional VP who flew in. This interview was very short, maybe 20 minutes, and I'm unsure how it went. After about a week, I emailed the initial manager about the position. Another week passed, so I emailed the VP for an update. A week later, I emailed both of them again. No response ever. I understand not getting a job, but I can't grasp how executives can be so unresponsive to basic updates after multiple direct requests over six weeks. Feels like I dodged a bullet.
- What are your strategies for fostering team cohesion?
Sales Manager
Got an email to set up a phone chat to talk about salary and why I wanted the gig. Then they set up a group/panel interview. Had to do an online personality test thingy. The group interview was with the hotel GM and the Area Director of Sales. They mostly talked about the position and I just tried to get a word in. Didn't get the job, had to ask about the decision. They said my laid back approach didn't make them think I really wanted it, and some things I said made it seem like the job would be too easy and sales isn't something I want to do.
- What makes you want this position?
- What are your salary expectations?
- Describe your relaxed style.
Front Desk Agent
I found the job on a school website. I heard back about 3 days later and interviewed with the front office supervisor. Then, about 3 days after that, I met with the GM. They were both super nice and knew what they were looking for. Everything they said about the job matched my expectations and what I actually did when I worked there.
- What would my former manager say about me?
