First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ironwood Pharmaceuticals.
Sales Manager
It was absolutely awful - grueling. They showed no consideration for my time, only scheduling when it was convenient for the managers. The process was so redundant and repetitive. Extremely amateur and unprofessional. They wanted extremely scripted and very specific answers that correlated to old school Pharma... they need to catch up with the times! They should be looking for used car sales persons who have no dignity left.
- They followed the STAR format for every interview, however all eight were expecting different answers during all eight rounds.
Clinical Scientist
HR was great at setting up the interview. The actual interview was pretty chill, mostly just chatting about personal and professional stuff with 4 people from the team, including the boss. Then I had to do a presentation for about an hour (45 mins presentation time with questions mixed in). It felt like it went really well because they started talking about how I would fit into current projects, like it was a done deal. I emailed the hiring manager right after to thank him and he said they'd let me know about projects I could work on (it's a part-time gig). A month passed and no word. I followed up, and he said he'd keep an eye out for projects... still nothing. So, nice team, but terrible communication within the team and with me.
- Can you share a personal strength and a weakness, and explain how you plan to address that weakness?
Sales Representative
The interviewing process was long but expected because Ironwood is trying to launch a new drug that hasn't been approved yet. Everything was good until the panel interview. I met for 4 hours with hiring managers and a regional director. It consisted of 4, one hour interviews with 2 different managers in each room. Each room handled a different subject, such as collaboration or sales methods. Their questioning was scattered and inconsistent. Based on your answers, you were assigned a point value. If you did not accumulate enough points, you were not offered a job. It was mostly all about how well you interviewed, not your background or experience.
- Can you tell me why you haven't received national awards?
Human Resources
The interview process involved an initial 30-minute phone call, followed by onsite meetings. These onsite meetings lasted about 30-45 minutes each and included interactions with various team members. While some questions were tough, most of the interviews were conversational, offering a great opportunity to understand the company from different departmental viewpoints. I appreciated the positive energy of the people and their evident pride in working at Ironwood.
