& Process

I had an interview where I first met two engineers. They had me work on an algorithm problem using a laptop they provided. It had some features like word prediction, closing braces, highlighting, and search/replace, but no IDE or intellisense. They were more interested in how I approached the problem than in a specific solution. They mentioned I couldn't Google the answer but encouraged looking up other algorithms and language aspects, as that's common in software development. After that, I spoke with the Senior Architect and the Operations Manager, who asked me detailed questions about my past work experience.

After I applied, a recruiter reached out pretty fast to set up a phone interview. It went well, and I felt good about it. The recruiter mentioned they wanted to do a technical interview and explained what it would involve. We got it scheduled, but 15 minutes before it was supposed to start, I got an email saying we had to postpone because the interviewers weren't available. This was a bummer, especially since I rearranged things at my current job to make it. But since the first call went well and I liked the sound of the role, I sent my availability for the next week to reschedule. A week passed with no response, so I emailed again to follow up and asked if they needed more times I was free. Another week went by, and still nothing. I was ghosted. It really surprised me, given how genuine and transparent IQ Inc. seems, especially since the second interview was already scheduled. I get it if they chose another candidate, but even an automated email would've been appreciated. I spent a lot of time prepping for the technical interview just to be ghosted. Seems like IQ Inc.'s culture of authenticity doesn't quite reach their recruiting department.

I was contacted by HR and we had a phone interview before the in-person one. A few days later, I was invited for an in-person interview. I went to their conference room and interviewed with the person who contacted me and their Director of Operations. I mostly introduced myself and gave them a better idea of who I am. The questions they asked were very straightforward.

First, I had a phone screen, then a face-to-face with HR and the engineering team. They asked some standard testing questions, focusing a bit on the process. They also really wanted to know about my personality and how I'd fit into the company culture after seeing I knew the domain.
