The interview process was quite thorough and involved 4 distinct stages: an initial HR screening, followed by a meeting with the hiring manager, then some coding challenges, and finally presentation and panel interviews. It was a good opportunity to meet most of the team and the main people I'd be collaborating with if I got the job.

I had a panel interview with different teams. Each team I spoke with had a different idea of what they wanted from the role, describing it as either a project manager or business analyst, which wasn't even the job I applied for. I talked to HR first and mentioned my salary expectations, which they said was fine. After the hiring manager's phone interview, I reconfirmed my salary needs, and they again said it was no issue. I ended up spending a whole day interviewing. They offered me the job, but the salary was less than I asked for and they said it couldn't be negotiated. This was a major red flag. It seemed like the team was disorganized, would be overworked, and have to juggle multiple roles. Combined with the dishonest HR, it made the decision to decline the offer easy.

Got referred by someone. First was a phone screen, which was good. Then, they had me come in for an in-person interview with the whole team. It was structured in rotations. I talked with pairs of higher development associates, then had 1-on-1s with the senior scientist and the HR Manager. They seemed to want to impress upon me how fast-paced the job would be, but that's pretty standard. I had to follow up a few times over two weeks, and eventually found out I didn't get it because of my qualifications. The pay was going to be $21-$23/hr.

Applied on-line. Then got a pre-screen via email. This email started with: "Just heard back from the hiring manager and he likes your background but he has a few questions about your background." Then I was asked when I graduated from college. And asked to indicate dates of employment at current job. And why I wanted to leave my current position. I responded with the dates of employment and when I graduated. And why I'm looking to leave my current job. Then....crickets. So if the hiring manager liked my background, what's relevant about my college graduation date? How about asking pertinent questions about my background instead?
