& Process

I interviewed over video, which was great. The call lasted about an hour and was really informative. The interviewer was super professional. I actually applied for a different role, but they thought I was a better fit for this Commercial Transaction Coordinator position.

A recruiting firm reached out about a full-time role at Investors Title. I had a phone screen with the VP, then an in-person meeting with him the next week. After that, I met with the Senior VP and then a team member (the only FT person there). There were 4 interviews in total, with 2 in their Chapel Hill office and one in RTP. The position seemed like a good fit for my background, but after the last interview, hearing an employee's perspective made me reconsider. It seemed like he didn't align with some decisions the VPs were making (they've both been there less than 6 months). He, being the most senior person in the department with 8 years of experience, wasn't on the same page as them on many decisions, including this one. The VPs both said they wanted a 'jack of all trades' person with broad experience, not someone specialized. I was told I didn't get the job because of my networking skills, which is odd since it only came up once and wasn't discussed further. If that was the main reason, I wouldn't have wasted my time and gas interviewing.

The interview process started with a phone call with HR, and then there were three really intense in-person interviews that took place over two days. I met with department heads, some other employees, and also the company president. The president seemed really focused on whether I was married or owned a house in the area, even though he acknowledged that asking those questions directly is against the law. There was a lot of talk about following the rules, but in a way that seemed like they wanted to bend them for the company's advantage.

I was contacted by a recruiting firm on LinkedIn. After that, I had an in-person interview with the recruiter, then an interview with HR. Finally, I had two interviews with upper management. HR was really nice, and upper management seemed to be really looking for people with 3-5 years of experience.
