First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Intrinsic Schools.
Director
Started with an initial phone screen, then a video call, followed by a presentation based on a prompt. After they liked the presentation, there were three or four more interviews, but the last two felt unnecessary and could have been covered after the presentation. Some odd, subjective questions towards the end made it feel like they were looking for reasons not to hire me, instead of reasons to hire me. This was surprising because I have experience in the education industry, but the interview process didn't feel like it was for a school at all.
- Given a prompt, prepare and deliver a presentation with accompanying visuals.
Teacher
It was a thorough, multi-leveled interview process. I was asked to create and present a lesson plan, which I thought was a brilliant idea, so I actually did 2. I consider myself a strong teacher and planner, and I really appreciated the chance to show off my planning style.
- Can you tell me about your experience working with urban youth?
Math Teacher
We started with a quick call with HR. Then I had to submit a lesson plan. After that, there was a Zoom interview with two team members, followed by another Zoom interview with two higher-ups.
- How would you approach a situation where you and a colleague have different ideas about something?
- Can you explain your process for planning lessons?
- What are your thoughts on the philosophy of education, particularly in the context of math?
Community Member
The interview process was straightforward, and I received an offer letter the very next day. Melissa, the CEO, was pleasant and helpful. Although the school days at Intrinsic are quite long, the overall experience was positive.
- Regarding school-wide discipline systems, what implementation strategies would you use?
