First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Intrepid Museum.
Institutional Advancement Coordinator
I had two interviews in person. Three people were there and asked normal questions. The environment was really cool and the people were inviting. They shared a lot of info about the organization and what the job involves.
- Can you share an example of teamwork?
- What's an example of a problem you solved?
- How do you communicate with various people?
Customer Service Representative
The interview process was very easy and straightforward. They wanted details about the position I was applying for and asked several questions. It's important to remain calm and provide direct answers. They are looking for candidates with previous customer service experience, and experience working in a museum is considered a bonus.
- Can you describe how you would manage a conflict?
- Tell me about your previous customer service experience.
- Have you worked in a museum before?
Event Staff
HR reached out to set up an interview. Instead of a phone screening, I was asked to come in person, which was inconvenient given the museum's location. They sent forms that duplicated information already on my resume, which felt like a bad sign. The travel was long, and the interview itself was short. Directions to the HR office were unclear, and I was sent to the wrong elevator. The HR assistant who met me was nice but mentioned the HR manager had just quit, so she was handling many duties. I met the department director first, who seemed uninterested in getting to know me and didn't seem to listen to my answers. She kept insisting my experience was freelance, even when I tried to explain, making me feel my experience wasn't good enough. There seemed to be a disconnect between HR and the department on what they wanted. I didn't get a chance to ask questions before being sent to HR. HR asked similar questions about my experience that the director had asked, and then I left. Overall, it was a bad experience, and I won't pursue it further. I haven't heard back yet, but I'll decline if they offer a second interview.
- Can you describe an event you managed completely from beginning to end?
