The interview process was interesting and very unique. Instead of a conventional interview I came into the office for a sort of "test drive" work day. At 9 a.m. I came in, the hiring manager talked to me for a few minutes and then they gave me a series of tests to examine my writing skills and see how quickly I took to the material. I got an hour lunch break and worked until about 4:30. Since the process took up a whole day, I was paid $100 for my time at the end of the interview. About one week later, I was asked to come back in for a second interview where I met with more of the management and more conventional questions were asked.

After submitting my online application, I got a call from the company president for an hour-long chat. I really liked her from the start. She actually invited me for an interview even though I couldn't start right away, which made me feel really wanted. Then, two months later, when I was available, they still needed someone and I went back for another interview, this time meeting with both owners. They were super friendly and I enjoyed hearing their ideas for the company's future!

It was a phone call first, then in-person. I came back two more times to talk with them and got a good feel for the company, but I couldn't figure out why they kept talking about veterinary stuff. I was like, 'Why are we discussing this?' but then when I started, I got it. They focus on vets and wanted me to understand that. After I got home, I had a question about health insurance and they answered it over the phone.

I had a couple of phone and in person interviews to start. They were charming and said all the right things. Then they had me come in to work a full day or two to see what I could do. After doing that, I got an offer. They asked me to not give my current employer the standard 2 weeks notice so I could quit immediately and start working for them. I thought that was an odd and unprofessional request. Then, once I told them about a vacation I had planned for a week, things got even more unprofessional. The vacation was a month away, so I gave plenty of notice, and as I do with any potential job, I let them know about any planned trips before starting. They told me they needed to check their 'handbook' about their policy for new employees taking time off because they 'had never had a new employee request to use pto 5 days after their start date'. In one email they said it was okay to start after my vacation, and after I accepted and said that sounded fine, they replied saying 'never mind you have to start before your vacation, do you want this position or not'. After their flip-flopping and ultimatum, I decided to decline the offer. I felt they could have handled things more professionally. It was summer, lots of people have trips planned, and it's not odd to tell your potential employer about time off you need before starting. The difference was most established employers have a policy for this and Intouch clearly didn't.
