First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Intevac.
Engineer
They really seemed to like my enthusiasm for the job. I talked with 4 different engineers. I couldn't answer some of the questions because I haven't really had to go that deep on those topics before, but my portfolio ended up being more impressive and made up for it.
- Were you asked technical questions you didn't have great answers for, but your enthusiasm for past relevant projects and eagerness to learn got you the offer?
Sales Executive
I had a face-to-face interview with the hiring manager and someone who would have been my coworker (but they got laid off my first week). Then I flew to California for about a 90-minute face-to-face interview. Right after landing, they made me an offer. They even sent a car to get me from the airport and take me to my hotel, and there was a rental car at the hotel for me to use. The accommodations were really nice.
- Are you a hands-on salesperson?
Finance
It kicked off with a 20-minute phone chat with the hiring manager. If you get through that, HR will call to set up an in-person meeting. At this stage, you'll meet with (1) the VP of HR, (2) a peer you'd work with daily, (3) your potential boss (the Hiring Manager), and (4) a top executive (like the CFO for finance roles).
- Can you share an example of a mistake you made in a decision or job function, and what you learned from it?
Field Service Engineer
The interview process involved a recruiter call and a technical screen. They asked about troubleshooting skills, a challenging situation, and motivation for applying.
- How do you approach troubleshooting, and can you share an example you're particularly proud of?
- Describe your biggest professional challenge and how you managed it.
- What motivated you to apply for this position?
