First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at InterSystems.
Sales Engineer
Before speaking to a single human, I had to complete three assessments (TET, PI, and PET) that took almost 2 hours, and it included a proctored webcam test. The recruiter didn't even wait for my response before sending the test links, which was a sign of things to come, and felt chaotic. I did the TET (the technical pass/fail test), and then the recruiter sent me the rest of the assessments. I completed all three assessments, only to be rejected with no feedback, no explanation, and no human contact throughout the entire process. The whole experience felt like being processed by a machine. My advice to candidates: Know what you're getting into. If you apply, be ready to invest a lot of time before anyone at the company actually sees you as a person. If the recruiting process is this impersonal, think about what that says about the company culture. My advice to InterSystems: Candidates are evaluating you too. A little human communication goes a long way.
- Take the TET (70 minute non-leetcode technical assessment)
- PI (personality test)
- PET (math and logic and reasoning etc.)
Sales Engineer
It began with a take-home assignment featuring multiple-choice questions on custom programming that was progressively developed, which was a fun and interesting way to assess a candidate's ability to learn new systems. After completing the assignment, a recruiter contacted me to schedule a call about the role. The recruiter initially cancelled the call, which was scheduled for a week out, and it took a few more days to reschedule it for another week later. This rescheduled call was a brief 20-minute discussion about the role and the subsequent steps. Following that, I had a very productive hour-long conversation with the Director of Sales Engineering, where we talked about my interests, background, the company's history, and engaged in some mock sales exercises. I was informed they were interested in moving forward. After not hearing from the recruiter for a couple of days, I reached out, and they promptly replied that I would proceed to three one-hour interviews, asking for my availability. I provided my available times but never received a response. I followed up once to inquire about the status but received no reply. Over three weeks later, an email arrived stating they had chosen another candidate. The entire experience was quite frustrating due to an unreliable recruiter and a complete lack of transparency in the process. It's unfortunate because the company seems great with good people, but they really need to improve their recruitment process.
- Can you walk me through how you would explain a specific technical subject to an audience without a technical background?
Sales Engineer
The interview process at InterSystems is quite comprehensive. You'll face multiple interviews across various departments, and sometimes even meet with the CEO. They also require a personality profile and a logic test. InterSystems places as much importance on finding someone with the right personality for the role as they do on your resumé.
- What aspects of a job do you dislike, and what do you truly enjoy about your work?
