First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at International House at UC Berkeley.
Marketing Assistant
So I applied through Handshake and they reached out to me there. It was a pretty chill interview process, just one round with the manager over at the International House Cafe. They basically hire students for all their entry-level positions.
- What is your availability right now?
Coordinator
I had 2 really great interviews, followed up multiple times, and then they ghosted me. It's sad that an industry supposedly focused on “changing & connecting the world” lacks the basic decency to just follow up. People communicate - be mindful of the impact your ghosting might have. A candidate is a candidate, and you should treat them like a professional, not like someone you met online. Advice to recruiters and hiring managers: Respond to your candidate’s emails and be as honest and transparent as possible about timelines. We all understand that things happen, emails don't get sent, etc. Your candidate shouldn't have to chase you post-interview (that's your responsibility, not theirs).

Program Assistant
I sent in my application online with my CV and cover letter, and got an interview invitation within a few days. The interview process included one group interview with the hiring manager and a junior employee. I got an offer a week later.
- Can you share an example of a time you led a team?
- What would you say is your greatest strength?
Events Assistant
After I applied, it took about 3 days to get an interview scheduled. I was interviewed by two people: the department manager and likely an HR person. The interview was planned to be under 20 minutes and was about job knowledge, my attitude, and commitment.
- What is your understanding of this role?
