I put in my application for the gig in late April and heard back from the recruiter around mid-May about setting up a phone interview. We had to reschedule like 3 times cuz his schedule was crazy busy. Anyway, we finally had a short phone interview that seemed to go okay; he was cool but all business, which was fine. He said he'd pass me to the hiring manager. Like, a day before the next interview, I got word the location had changed. So, I met with the HM about a week after that. The location switch meant I had to go to the old INAP spot downtown, and it was a whole thing figuring out the building and parking. The hiring manager was super friendly and easy to chat with, but I realized the job wasn't really what I expected. It wasn't something I could see myself doing long-term, and I guess the manager noticed.

My interview was actually four separate 30-minute chats with different Internap folks: the recruiter, an HR manager, my direct boss (the marketing manager), and the lead generation director. Since it was an entry-level gig, there weren't any weird questions. I liked that the employees were open about work-life balance, the company vibe, and where they thought Internap was going. Apparently, the marketing team has blown up this past year, meaning lots of chances to move up, but they probably need someone willing to put in the hours to hit targets. It's clearly a place that focuses on results, so I'd totally suggest using concrete examples and numbers to showcase what you've done. Don't be shy about your abilities, but make sure you have proof for everything you claim.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

A recruiter reached out to me via Career Builder and asked if I was interested in the Hosting Consultant role. Then, I had a phone interview with my potential boss where I was asked about my experience and some technical questions, like the benefits of non-multi-threaded processing. I thought I didn't do well, but the recruiter let me know I was liked and set up the next round. This next round consisted of five interviews: one with my boss, one with a marketing person, and three with future teammates. My boss started by asking me to identify computer hardware components. The marketing person and I discussed and diagrammed my personal project's infrastructure, which was fun and helped me fix some bugs. The interviews with my future teammates were mainly to check team chemistry. After that, the recruiter followed up, and I sent a thank-you email to my future boss, who responded positively a few days later.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • The diagramming was unexpected, but breaking it down and discussing the finer points with a technical person was fun and enlightening, leading to major shifts in how the application worked to improve performance.

HR reached out cuz they saw my resume. I chatted with them about my skills, and they set up the first panel interview. Next, I was supposed to have a tech interview with two tier III engineers. But only one showed up on time, so it turned into two separate hour-long interviews. After that, I had a 1.5-hour in-person interview.
