First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Intentional Software.
Intern
I went through 3 interviews for the intern role. First up was an HR chat with some standard behavioral questions. Then, I had two technical interviews focusing on core computer science concepts. I felt good about the second round, but the third round had a tricky algorithm/data structure design problem that I couldn't quite crack. Honestly, some of these questions feel a bit luck-based, which is common in interviews anyway. While the overall experience was decent, the second interview was a bit of a letdown. The interviewer was unresponsive after I offered a solution, and I had to prompt them to see if they were still engaged. When I did manage to solve the complex problem, but not in the most efficient way, they gave a vague 'good' response. This led me to believe I had the right answer, and I didn't push for optimization, which turned out to be a mistake given their odd reasoning.
- Tell me about yourself and other basic behavioral questions.
- Can you explain data structures and solve an algorithm problem?
- Let's discuss a basic algorithm design problem, followed by a unique data structure challenge.
Intern
I went through a series of interviews: first a behavioral one over the phone, then two technical phone interviews, and finally a technical interview in person. The behavioral interview was pretty standard, asking about my motivations for applying and what I hoped to gain from the internship. All interviews except the last one were conducted remotely via phone. The technical interviews were tough, but the interviewers were helpful and provided a good number of hints.
- Can you explain how to execute a series of tasks with dependencies, given an input like (A, B) (B,C), where B depends on A?
- Describe how to determine the execution order of tasks when there are dependencies, using an example like (A, B) and (B,C).
Intern
So basically, I had a behavioral interview first, which I think went pretty well. The person interviewing me was super enthusiastic and seemed to really know the company inside and out. But then the technical interview? Not so great. The interviewer seemed totally unenthusiastic about Intentional and didn't really seem interested in discussing their work. And even when I got the answers right, the interviewer would take forever to realize my solution matched what they had in their script.
- Can you tell me what you know about Intentional?
