First, I had a nice chat with the recruiter about basic stuff like relocation willingness, no tech questions at all. Then, I had a video call with project managers and senior devs who were super serious. They asked a lot of different questions and had high standards. They covered programming language basics, theoretical ML like how certain deep learning algos work, and I had to explain the details of my projects, especially any math or ML parts, making sure I remembered everything about implementation and theory. They are looking for really strong candidates and might offer an internship if they are not sure about you.

I had a phone interview first, then an in-person interview. I met with 7 people on the team for about 2.5 hours. They gave me a tour of the office and showed me how they use their application internally. There was plenty of time for questions from my side and theirs. It felt like a very friendly and welcoming place.

This was the most uncomfortable interview experience I've ever had as a postgraduate student. It was a two-hour session where I spoke with several members of the research scientist team. As a recent college graduate, they expected me to have PhD-level work, which is strange because the whole point of getting a role like this is to gain experience while pursuing a PhD. Even if I were offered a position, I wouldn't take it because the interview made it clear that the work culture here is toxic. I confirmed this with further research after the fact.
