I had a really great time interviewing with Instrumental. They were super communicative and the recruiters did an awesome job telling me what to expect and getting me ready for everything. The whole thing felt really thought out and honest, starting with chatting about different job options and then moving to a cool, realistic take-home project. After that, there was a well-organized panel interview. I especially liked the product demo, talking about a real customer problem, and meeting with leaders. It showed me they really care about their product and their team. Honestly, it was one of the best and most respectful interview processes I've been through.

It was a strange experience, felt promising at first and they made me feel like I was part of the team. But the process kept escalating with more asks and no clear boundaries. In the end, after submitting everything they asked for, they stopped responding altogether. It felt like they were more interested in gathering information than genuinely hiring. I would not recommend the experience to others.

The interview process was great. It was thorough and well-organized, starting with standard recruiting calls, followed by a take-home assignment, and concluding with an onsite interview with the team. The take-home assignment gave me great insight into the company’s work style, which was helpful in understanding how I might fit in. The onsite interview was valuable, as I got to spend the day at the office, meet the team, and get a feel for the company culture. I appreciated how honest and transparent the interviewers were, as they gave me a realistic picture of the role and the work environment. Instrumental values culture and teamwork and that was clear through the process. It truly felt like a mutual selection process which made me feel confident in the company and team I would be joining.

I had a chat with HR and the VP, which was fine. But then the engineering team was a whole different story. They seemed clueless about basic programming concepts and couldn't grasp explanations of code logic or why certain tech was chosen. The interviewer was super unprofessional, asked some weird, inappropriate stuff, and seemed really biased. Giving a take-home project that required production-ready code and docs felt like a way to just get free work. From what I heard from ex-employees, they're struggling to get their product finished, and the engineering team seems pretty weak, inexperienced, and stuck in their ways with tech. Might have a cool product though.
