Software Development Engineer In Test
So first, I got a screening call, then had to do an online coding test. After that, there was a technical interview with the Engineering Manager. The final part involved three separate one-hour technical/behavioral interviews with Software Engineers. Each of these followed a structure: talk about your background and skills, learn about the company and the role, then a 30-minute coding challenge, and finally 10 minutes for QA questions. I thought the process was pretty fair and everyone was nice. You could do the coding challenges on your own or with some help, they still want to see your problem-solving. My only thought is maybe it could be a little shorter.
- How would you approach testing a chainsaw?
Software Engineer in Test
I had a phone call with the recruiter and got hackerrank challenges. After passing those, I had a 30 minute online meeting. Then I was invited onsite for a whiteboard coding test. I felt I could write and test solutions, but got bad marks for not immediately seeing minor flaws they hinted at unclearly. They told me it wasn't going to work before the interview ended. Feedback suggested they wanted a senior, which is annoying since the posting didn't mention that and I wouldn't have applied otherwise. They seem to want a senior dev to do QA.
- How would you determine if a character was removed from a String?
- Can you write a function that finds pairs of integers in an array that sum to a specific value, and what considerations do you have regarding the size of the integers?
- How can we check if two strings are anagrams of each other?
Software Engineer in Test
I got an email about a HackerRank test with 15 questions and 3 programming challenges, 90 minutes to complete. Even though my code failed most tests, I passed the online part. It was tough but expected for a Software Engineer in Test role, unlike a regular QA role. The next day, I had a 30-minute video call with a team lead. Two days later, I went onsite for interviews with QA team leads who gave me a whiteboard coding challenge and asked how I'd test the code. Then, I met a product owner who asked similar practical questions. I expected to hear back the next day, but due to the holiday weekend, the response was delayed until the following week.
- What would be your approach to testing a microwave?
- Could you explain how you would test the functionality you just coded?
