Behavioral Technical Case Presentation

It was four rounds. First was the hiring manager. Then a technical exercise, they said it would take a week but it was two days. Then a third interview discussing the exercise. The fourth interview was with a SE, which sometimes was combined with the third. Didn't hear back for a month. They also missed a call they scheduled and didn't reply to the confirmation.

The interviewers were friendly and seemed to have a good dynamic, making me want to join their team. The questions were generic, allowing for genuine responses. I'd researched Instructure's DEI efforts and noted their public communication on these has increased recently. In 2016, they shared internal diversity data, acknowledging a predominantly white male workforce. By 2019, they updated on internal policy discussions and reaffirmed commitments. However, there was no statement after summer 2020 supporting black employees. I inquired about progress on their 2016 commitments, but the response was unclear, lacking specific examples of changes, even from those who'd been there since then. While I can't be certain as this was my last interaction, the lack of consistent employee responses about combating racism institutionally suggests it's not a daily priority, potentially overshadowed by urgency and typical dominant cultural norms. I withdrew from the process post-interview, so this isn't a firsthand account, but I hope it helps you consider your own priorities in an employer.

I was referred by an employee, and then submitted my resume online. Within a few weeks, I was contacted for a phone interview. A few days later, I had an in-person interview with a group of managers for the position. They asked me about my previous experience and why I'd be a good fit. They also asked if I had questions for them at the end. A few days after that, I had a final interview. I got the offer the same day as the final interview.
