Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Instacart.
Operations Associate
The interview process at Instacart was long and demanding. It started with a recruiter call, then a skills test to be completed within 48 hours, followed by a call with the hiring manager. The final stage involved a set of video panel interviews spread across 6 hours. Throughout the process, the interviewers seemed unenthusiastic and bored, making the experience quite negative.
- Could you tell me what your understanding of Instacart is?
Business Operations Associate
The interview process was really bad. For a company as small as Instacart, there were way too many steps: an online SQL challenge, a recruiter phone screen, a data challenge, a phone case study, and a final panel interview. Also, their response times are super slow. The recruiter barely responds, you have to email like 2-3 times and also email her colleagues to get her to reply. It's basic courtesy to at least say you need more time. She didn't even say what kind of interview it was or how long it would be. I quit after the phone case study round and got no feedback, even though I spent over a month interviewing. It really feels like they move at a snail's pace. The weirdest part was being told to expect a non-Instacart business case in the phone interview, but then the interviewer just asked about Instacart's business. I'm glad I left and didn't waste more time. They should train their recruiter and the person giving out case studies. The interviewer should prepare beforehand and stick to the plan. After this experience, I'm sure all the bad reviews about the company are true.
- Can you tell us about yourself?
- What interests you about Instacart?
- What are your reasons for seeking a new role?
Business Operations Associate
The interview process was tough, it included a screening, a hiring manager interview, a take-home case with a presentation, and three case interviews. However, the recruiting process was great overall. The recruiter was very communicative, and the whole process took 4 weeks to schedule everything. I found the case interviews challenging because the prompts were about specific issues tied to the team, which made me quickly realize I wasn’t a fit.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What is your motivation for this role?
- Describe your experience working with data.
