Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Inria.
PhD Student
It was one phase, where I had to present my work and then we had a discussion. They asked me to create a presentation about my past projects, and we talked about that during the interview. They also asked if I had read any of the team's papers.
- Could you prepare a presentation that details your previous projects?
- Have you had a chance to review any of the papers published by our team?
PhD Student
I had 2 interviews and 1 presentation. The first was a general interview, and the second was a technical interview. There was also a presentation based on a research paper proposed by the advisor. The presentation was 20 minutes long, followed by some questions to kick off a discussion.
- Can you tell me about your software development skills?
- What is your mathematical background?
PhD Student
The interview process involved in-depth scientific questions to assess your background and motivation, which were key aspects. A friendly atmosphere was maintained. Since PhD positions often involve fixed-term contracts, the recruitment process is managed by individual advisors and their research teams.
- Where do you see yourself in 3 years post-PhD?
