So I had this interview for a GIS Developer role. It started with a developer asking me to go through my resume. Even though I explained my background in detail, he focused on areas where I didn't have much experience. When I mentioned I hadn't built APIs in 3 years, he asked me to list RESTful verbs. He then laughed at me, saying I didn't know that, which was frustrating since I'd just told him I hadn't worked with it recently. The next round was supposed to be a skills test with two developers. They couldn't help me log into the remote desktop for the test. The recruiter said to download the Microsoft Remote Desktop app and the interviewers would give instructions. But the interviewers didn't know how to use the software, so we had to reschedule. During the rescheduled interview, the same login issue happened, and I couldn't take the skills test. It was a disappointing experience, and I felt like I wasted my time. It seemed like the people there were more like GIS technicians than developers, and they weren't equipped to interview someone with a computer science background. I wouldn't recommend wasting your time with this company.

Had a few phone interviews. First, a recruiter call which was super chill and totally sold me on the role before I even talked to the tech people. Then, I talked to the technical managers. They really grilled me, but it was all stuff that's relevant to the job. Overall, it was nice chatting with everyone and they made me feel comfortable.

I had a phone screen with the hiring manager but then never heard anything back. I followed up, but still no response. I think this is a poor way to treat candidates, it takes seconds to send an email saying "We are not moving forward with your candidacy" or something similar. Candidate experience is important and maybe Innovate should consider that as part of their recruitment strategy.
