First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at ING.
Intern
At ING Luxembourg, the internship application process usually involves several steps. First, they screen your CV and cover letter. Then, you'll have a phone call with HR to go over your background, why you're interested, and your availability. After that, you'll meet with the hiring manager or the team to see if your technical skills are a good fit and if you match the company vibe. Sometimes, they might add a third interview or some tests. If everything checks out, ING will let you know and sort out the paperwork for the internship agreement.
- We talked about my background, then there were questions about the position, and finally about the internship agreement.
Investment Banking Intern
The interview process involved a single one-hour session with a VP. The session focused on the financial statements of an unknown company. Additionally, there were numerous questions about my motivation, interest in investment banking, reasons for applying to this firm, and my suitability for the role, including discussions on my strengths, weaknesses, background, and any deals I've noticed from the firm.
- Given the financial statements of an unknown company, could you analyze them line by line and identify what type of firm it is, perhaps looking for any red flags?
- What motivates you to pursue investment banking?
- Why are you interested in our firm specifically?
Intern
So I had two interviews with this company, they talk a lot about how they hire, but it was kinda weird. They said it was all behavioral, but it was mostly about my CV and technical stuff. First interview was fine, second one not so much. The interviewers were kinda rude, and the audio was bad. I got one question right, but they said I was wrong, and I checked later and I was right. They said I'd hear back in a week after the first interview, but it took two weeks to get the second interview. Then they said they'd follow up in a few days after the second one. It's been weeks now, no word. They post a lot about hiring on social media, so this silence is pretty unprofessional.
