Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Influence & Co..
Content Strategist
It started with a quick 15 minute phone call. If they liked me, there would be two more in-person interviews plus a take-home assignment. Even though my resume clearly showed I had no prior experience in content strategy and my degree was in science, the hiring manager still reached out twice because I missed her first email. She seemed really interested. The phone interview itself was confusing; it felt like I was wasting her time. She asked a couple of standard questions, then asked if I had any questions for her. After I asked my questions and she answered them, she then asked about salary expectations and explained the rest of the interview steps.
- What makes you a strong candidate for this role?
- Can you explain what this job entails to another person?
- What are your salary expectations?
Content Strategist
After a longer than usual initial wait, the interview process involved meeting several team members. Everyone was happy to discuss their roles and my potential role. The questions felt more like a conversation and weren't overly difficult.
- Could you elaborate on your previous professional experience?
Content Writer
Beware of interview scams, like application fees or requiring membership. A common one is the 'unique work sample' scam, where you're given a detailed assignment with specific topics, word counts, and quick deadlines. You write the article, submit it, and get rejected, having provided free content. Influence & Co. uses this method, disguising the assignment as a task for their company with specific links and parameters. While legit jobs ask for samples, this requires new work for SEO value. Despite having relevant experience, you must provide this 'unique sample'.
- Were you asked very little during the initial interview?
