The interview process began with an initial phone screening that felt very scripted and impersonal. Communication was also inconsistent. After the first call, I waited a week before following up, and didn’t receive a response until two weeks later. At that point, I was sent a take-home assignment to complete before moving forward. I chose not to continue since I generally avoid unpaid project work during interview processes.

The recruiter reached out quickly after I applied on a job board. They went over the role and provided a salary and OTE range, which seemed competitive and a good fit. I double-checked the salary with the Sales Manager midway through, and they confirmed it, making me feel comfortable. Before the final in-person interview, I submitted my base salary expectations on the application again. I felt good about the manager, my potential teammates, and the company's professionalism. However, after the final lunch interview, the verbal offer came in, and the base salary was $20,000 less than what was discussed throughout the entire interview process! It turned out the recruiter was stating the total OTE as the base salary. This was a huge red flag. It's frustrating that incorrect information was given, wasting everyone's time and resources. If you're applying, I'd suggest: 1) Slow down, confirm your non-negotiables upfront, and ask for clarification because they seemed eager to hire quickly. 2) The Sales Manager is great; I would have accepted the offer if the salary info was correct because of their leadership. People stay for their managers. 3) The coworkers seem genuine and down-to-earth, and the office has a mature vibe.

First, I had a quick chat with the recruiter. Then, I talked to the hiring manager over the phone. After that, I went on-site for an interview with both the hiring manager and the recruiter. Finally, I had lunch with the team I'd be joining to see if I'd be a cultural fit. The vibe was super relaxed, they were really open about everything, and I got to meet some awesome people. It's not the easiest to get an offer, but that's because they really want to hire the best!
