Make sure to reach out to professors you're interested in working with before submitting your online application. Check if they're accepting students and chat about their research interests to see if they match yours. Also, inquire about their mentoring approach. It's very uncommon for candidates who don't contact professors beforehand to advance or get accepted. The university hosts graduate recruitment weekends where they invite prospective students. These weekends include a full day of interviews with professors you select, followed by a dinner on the first day. The second day offers optional activities for you to explore Bloomington, and there's a party the next day.
