It was a comfortable environment. I was given plenty of time for the interview, but it was scheduled last minute. The department wasn't at fault, but the school's ability to give me time to set up courses was lacking.

I was brought into a room with one interviewer. They asked me questions for about half an hour. Then, I got to ask my own questions. I had a few and asked them. They gave me short answers, but they did answer my questions in the end. They could have been a little more detailed.

Behavioral Presentation

It's usually a multi-stage interview. Make sure you're up-to-date on both practical and theoretical aspects of your field. If you know someone in the department, try to find out what the department needs. This will help you gauge your chances. For instance, if you're good at qualitative research but they need someone for quantitative research, you probably won't be chosen. Be ready to answer: What courses would you want to teach at IUP? The university's website has a lot of info on what they offer.

I found out about the Writing Center hiring through a friend. I applied online, then printed, filled out the application, and added a writing sample before submitting it at the front desk. A few days later, I got an email to come in for an interview, which was in the chairperson's office with him and the assistant chair. I was asked some questions about myself and my interest in the position, and if I understood the job duties. They also asked about my writing experience. The interview lasted about 10 minutes, and then I shook hands and left. The next day, I got an email saying I was hired and when my first day would be.
