A recruiter reached out to me about a managing editor position. They needed someone to oversee all editing projects, assign work to freelancers, and also copy edit. The recruiter sent some basic prep materials. The interview process involved short one-on-one chats with about 5 or 6 main people involved. I also had to take an editorial test to check my grasp of AMA style.

I applied for a medical writer job 2 years ago when I was a postdoc. I had an on-site interview but wasn't selected. Recently, someone contacted me about opportunities. When I followed up, I was told they wouldn't move forward with my application even before I submitted an updated resume with my recent freelance and agency experience. I explained I didn't understand the decision based on my previous resume and didn't think it was fair. Someone called me to explain that the recruiter made a mistake reaching out and that I performed poorly in the on-site interview and wouldn't be considered even with more experience. When I asked for details on my poor performance, I was told I didn't answer questions correctly and they didn't get to know me, so I wasn't a good fit. She refused to elaborate or provide useful feedback, essentially calling just to insult me. I later learned from former employees it's a terrible company, so their loss.

It was pretty easy, especially if you know a little bit about Marketing. Make sure you research medical education companies, what they do, and who their clients are. Don't be afraid to ask questions; the interviewer can give you a better idea of what the job is all about.

I first spoke with a talent acquisition recruiter. Who explained the interview process, which involved making a presentation before the interview and then interviewing with 5 people the day of the interview. I did not need to present the presentation.
