First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Impel.
Software Engineer Intern
Went through my projects in a 30-minute technical interview covering REST API and JS. They asked me to help debug their codebase. Behavioral questions at the start were simple. Asked why I wanted to work there.
- Can you tell me about the projects you've worked on?
- Could you help us debug this piece of code?
- What motivates your interest in working with us?
Account Manager
I applied online and the recruiter reached out pretty fast. We had a phone screening which I enjoyed. She then set me up to talk to the hiring manager a few days later. I liked that they were quick. The hiring manager was experienced but seemed more into learning about my past companies in the automotive sector, which she saw as competitors, rather than getting to know me. It felt more corporate than startup-like, which was a bit of a mismatch with the team. It also made me wonder if some people left because of growth and others due to turnover. Overall, it was a good interview and the company and product seem solid. I appreciate their time, it just wasn't the right fit for me.
- Can you tell me a little about yourself?
Demand Generation Director
I was in process with Impel for almost three months, going through over 14 interviews for a Director-level marketing role. This included flying out to Syracuse for onsite meetings. The whole process was super long, not clear what was happening, and just kept getting longer with more interviews added each week and no end in sight. They told me multiple times we were "close to a decision" but it just kept dragging on with hardly any communication or structure. When I finally flew out, some important people didn't even show up to meet in person and their interviews were switched to virtual, even though I was in their office. The recruiter totally messed up coordinating the trip, it was a big disruption, and I never got a clear idea of what would happen next. I stayed really engaged because I thought I was a great fit. I was upfront that this was my top choice, and I even moved around other interviews to make Impel my priority. I kept getting good feedback. After all of that, I just got a cold, generic rejection email with no reason, no follow-up, and no thank you for the time I put in. If you're thinking about a job here, get ready for a frustratingly long and really inconsiderate process, especially for senior roles. Even if they say you're a top candidate, don't expect honesty, a clear ending, or basic professionalism.
- How would you build a demand generation strategy that balances lead volume and sales pipeline quality?
Events Director
A former colleague passed my name along while Impel was still defining the Director, Events role, and the CMO got in touch to get things rolling. From the initial discussion, the process felt genuinely authentic—purposeful, concentrated, and personal. I connected with eight individuals throughout the organization, including the CEO, CHRO, VP of Sales, and SVP of Customer Success. Even with the high number of interviews, it never felt excessive or insufficient. Every discussion was relaxed and engaging, resembling more of a true conversation than a typical interview Q&A. What stood out most was how unified the team was regarding priorities, culture, and the importance of experience. Everyone I met with truly cared about creating something significant—not only for customers but for employees as well. Events spurred some great discussions, and it was evident they view it as a potent method for connection, engagement, and driving progress. (I agree!) I left feeling motivated, valued, and enthusiastic about their future trajectory. It was one of the most considered and motivating interview journeys I've experienced. Glad I accepted the offer!
- Tell me about a situation where you had to challenge a directive or ask from senior management. What was your strategy, and what happened in the end?
